September 2007

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are happy to see the students!  The administration, faculty, and staff have eagerly prepared for this new school year.  Lesson plans and activities have been painstakingly prepared, in order to create a nurturing and challenging school environment.

The Sacred Heart School faculty has rededicated themselves to the academic goal of helping students to improve the quality of their written work in all subject areas and grade levels. Together we renew our commitment to the mission of Sacred Heart School.  Our mission statement is:

Sacred Heart School

~is a ministry of Sacred Heart Parish and seeks to educate both hearts and minds.

~is a community of warm, caring hearts, as demonstrated by leadership through service, and generosity to others by prayer and action.

~is committed to an education that emphasizes values and teachings in the Roman Catholic tradition.

~works to create an environment of academic excellence that supports the development of moral character.

~serves students of different ethnic cultures and religious beliefs from within the parish and surrounding communities.

~recognizes individual needs and strives to educate the whole person, through the development of leadership skills, while fostering the concept of a global community.

Improvement of our academic programs and facility continues.  Through your support of our fundraising efforts and the generosity of the P.T.O., microscopes for the Science laboratory were purchased during the summer.  New Science textbooks for grades six through eight have also been purchased.  Eighteen computers in the Computer laboratory were upgraded.   Reading and Math software programs were installed for the primary grades.  Desktop computers from the lab were reinstalled in the classrooms for use by the faculty.  Administrative software was purchased and installed which will enable teachers to generate attendance reports, student assessments, post homework assignments, etc., more easily.

The National School Lunch Program was implemented last year and very well received.  We are happy to announce that Mrs. Basile will now prepare all lunches.  Mrs. Hines will continue as the program coordinator offsite.  Information regarding the program was mailed out in August.

Open House will be held Tuesday, September 18th from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  The evening will begin in the auditorium.   You will then have an opportunity to visit the classrooms, meet the teachers, and listen to a brief overview of the curriculum and classroom expectations.  Coffee and refreshments will be provided by the P.T.O. in the first floor corridor.

Thank you for your support of Sacred Heart School.  I look forward to working with you throughout the year!

Sincerely yours,

Katherine Hunter
