Barry Burbank
Barry Burbank, WBZ-TV ’s meteorologist, came to Sacred Heart School and met with students in Grades Four through Six. Mr. Burbank discussed hurricanes, tornados, and quizzed the Can you list all five?
For many, their favorite part of Mr. Burbank’s visit was viewing the tornado video. Students learned that even though tornadoes are rare in Massachusetts, they do occur. In 1953, a large tornado hit Worcester, Massachusetts. The Worcester tornado lasted for 84 seconds, traveled 46 miles, with an estimated wind speed of 300 miles per hour. Mr. Burbank told us the best place to seek shelter from a tornado is the basement or in a low-lying area.
To show our appreciation, Barry Burbank was presented with a Sacred Heart School fleece jacket and a donation for Wednesday’s Child.
Before he left, Mr. Burbank took a group picture of the students and told us to watch WBZ news the following morning. At 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Barry Burbank showed the picture he took of Sacred Heart School’s “weather wise” students and thanked us for his fleece logo jacket. Mr. Burbank’s co-anchors wanted to know if he brought fleece jackets for them!
fWe are grateful Mr. Burbank took time out of his busy schedule to visit with Sacred Heart School.
What are the five types of precipitation? Rain, hail, freezing rain, sleet, and snow!
